so, if you are like me who cannot see pictures of pretty food without extensive feelings of jealousy, a need to kill, and terrible hunger that hits just like a mob - skip the pictures!
i call it the food-eye-syndrome. (images of food hit the eye which registers in the brain triggering off the host of symptoms i just mentioned)
The Nuffnang-ers organized an "Oriental Cuisine Event" (OCE) on the 19/6 to the 20/6 reserved specially for six bloggers to review, taste (or gorge), and blog about the delicacies on the cold, windy hill of Genting.
as Charis had class and i had midterms on that day, we arrived a little late (i like to call it fashionably late) and couldn't make it for the OCE's first venue in Ming Ren. No worries, i'll still blog about it after i steal from some other bloggers =D
In the express bus! |
y u no go somewhere elseeeeee |
"why do i have to wait" face |
We reached at about four in the afternoon. the Skyway was so packed! afterwards we heard from Chloe, one of the organizers from Genting, that it was apparently that start of school holidays in Singapore. that's why there were so many tourist groups!
Darren from Nuffnang greeted us at the lobby of the Theme Park Hotel and ushered us off into our rooms! i vaguely hear a "wahhhhh~" from Charis before i stepped into the room..
guess who sleeps in the single bed D: |
Spacious room with a huge mirror!! yeap that's whats important |
the bath where i played submarine |
view from our room |
selca |
one for me, one for Charisssss |
Two little monkeys, jumping on the bed.. |
it said on the itinerary that we would be going off for dinner at Genting Palace at 6.30 pm, so Charis and i had alot of time to doll up <3
all dolled up! |
long sleeve - cotton on top - brands outlet high waisted skirt - Duet |
red lips vs nude! *guns out* |
At 6.30 Darren "collected" us and the other bloggers - Tian Chad (i asked if he was a Thai), Daniel, and Max. Wendy came afterwards when we were at Genting Palace.

drnking tea like a taitai (lifelong ambition) |
you can see Tian Chad and Max over there, hehe |
Top G8 Chef Jacky Yap |
Menu for the night! |
After some chit-chat and self-introduction, we started without further ado *rubs hands in glee*
First up, Double-boiled Minced Quail Ball with Assorted Fungus. in Mandarin it is called 野生菌炖鹌鹑球,which i think sums up the "essence" of the soup perfectly.
normal soup? |
no it's not! the hugeee quail meatball with water cressnut |
the extremely expensive wild mushroom (野生菌) crunchy, though! |
not to mention that it's not warmed up soup from the kitchen, loves!
Next up, Baked Baby Lobster with Dragon Fruit & Cheddar Cheese!
i was wondering how could Dragonfruit be paired up with lobster..fruit and seafood? it is a feat in itself just to place them together on a plate!
which one to start on first? lobster or salad? salad or lobster? |
close-up of the salad <3 |
the tanginess of the fruits relives the heavy taste from the lobster and it is perfectly fine just to take some fruit and eat it with the lobster! The girls from Wisma Genting were so enthralled with the special taste from the salad that one of them, Chloe asked Chef Yap if they would consider just selling the salad to her!
Then we were served Steamed Dragon Tiger Grouper with Preserved Vegetable Condiment. the dish itself looked a little bit like our Wanton Noodles, but a bite out of it proved that it was nothing like those noodles.
see the plump flesh of the fish? mmmmm |
nice photo editing! |
Noodles were from Shanghai! (ooooh hi you lil noodles from overseas) and the fish tasted fresh, mixed with the preserved vegetables, it was just nice. Chef Yap told us that it compliments each other because the preserved vegetables were salty while the fish was just steamed without any other seasonings. a little too salty for my taste though, those of you who are heavy on taste may find it to your liking though!
Afterwards came the fourth dish - Simmer Abalone & Winter Melon with Black Truffle & Yellow Broth.
Not a fan of Abolone in the first place, i didn't find it as fascinating as others would, but all i can say that it was HUGE.
the vege tasted nice though Xp |
Next up, Crispy Chicken Fillet with Special Sauce.
Spicyyyyy!
careful of the |
my mouth was swollen by the time i finish two of these though.
Chef Yap made a joke out of Charis and i, of our inability to take any spiciness..
"Are you Malaysian?", haha! Malaysian ARE kind of identified by all the spicy curries and chillis they eat *glum face*. apparently even the chef's son, who is three, can take it better than us T.T
hhahahha he is hilarious. throughout dinner he was loud and boisterous, talking about everything under the moon about his family, how he met his wife, iphones and kids all the way to his time in Phillipines already. Xp
Lastly we had my favourite, DESSERT!
Although all it s named is Genting Palace Special Dessert, it doesn't even borderline justify the awesomeness of these desserts!
yum yum YUMMM |
the jellied base of the desserts, UNEDIBLE! |
soft snowskin with whipped cream and mango filling! not to forget the slice of strawberry as a nice aftertaste <3 |
crunch crunch crunch |
The chef talked about how one blogger from Singapore who is skinny and tiny managed to eat at least 4 of his desserts *in a state of bliss just thinking about that*
Lastly, picture-taking time with all the other bloggers and chef and everybody!
panorama shot of the table, just nice! |
from left - Daniel, me, Tian Chad and Max hahha Max is so cute |
from right - Wendy, me, Chef Yap and sister Charis |
took a pic with Darren from Nuffnang made him stoop down though Xp |
Everybody smileeeeee |
Lovely dinner! All of us left, happy, satisfied, and mostly with bulging tummies! (nice to know that even my small frame can stomach all those food <3)
