breakfast in express! (Gorging Feast Part 2)

waking up at 8 a.m., AGAIN.
that's how i felt when the alarm rang.

getting ready! forgive the messy room :)

owh well. we have to be "professional" and bloggers with grit.
so still squinting out eyes, me and Charis made it to the lobby to await the others.
Turns out we were the earliest though!

Breakfast!
Job Assignment:
Venue - Hainan Express
Location - next to the lobby of Theme Park Hotel
Goal - to eat until you're stuffed!

nice replicas of breakfast they serve

the interior of Hainan Express - nice eh?
you can open the windows for cool air!

making teh tarik early in the morning! *respect

menus under the glass at the tables
So we had choices of the Breakfast set, the Express set (soft boiled eggs, tea/coffee, toast/steamed bread), nasi lemak, Porridge or just toast.

Most of us went for the Breakfast Set, but Tian Chad gamely settled for the porridge and there were plenty of toast to pass around!

Breakfast set with chicken slices

Porridge! it came in a HUGE bowl

Nasi Lemak. the authentic taste was preserved, i'm happy to note

and more

and more!

the steamed bread - was quite chewy, best taken hot and piping!
Most of the food are quite nice (in an Oldtown Coffee style way), i find that the food maintained a certain quality though it was mostly quite mundane because we can get these food anywhere.

However, it is perfect for those who are looking for a quick bite or late supper, it opens till 2am on weekends! and there are already branches at the casino and various strategic spots for supplying the late night hunger madness <3
all of us that morning before heading back to sleep <3

Cheers!

Happy Father's Day!

One week ago it was Father's Day, hahaha what did you do for your dad?
i stuffed mine with food :D

So after church on Sunday, (Big Bro Kevin came back from Singapore too!) we went for lunch at this place called Cheras Fish Head Restaurant in, well, Cheras.

we came by once or twice before with aunties and uncles from church and the food is okay-okay lahh~nothing much to shout about though.

Cheras Fish Head Restaurant
famous newspaper clippings from the past?
boiled vegetables with garlic oil

pork leg in vinegar

close up of the pork!
A lunch consisting of steamed fish, Pork leg in vinegar, vege, fried pork meat and some tofu cost about Rm 130 for around 10 people, so it's considered quite cheap lah considering the fact that Cheras is in KL.

For dinner, Kevin wanted to try this new place (usually we just go to the same places every week, Daddy loves the consistency and comfort in regular surroundings, i guess) in Seri Kembangan called Kien Kee Restaurant!

it's located at housing areas near the main road. Just turn in at the post office/Dewan Rakyat turning and spot for the Kien Kee Restaurant sign hanging.

Kien Kee Restaurant
When we arrived it was packed full! even the shoplots in the area is taken over by this restaurant, filling it with tables and chairs. waiters kept bustling by and one came up to ask how many pax are having dinner for our party, and then told us to line up until an empty table is ready. (not bad the system!)

well you know sometimes places like this you'll have to wait for tables to finish up you have to stand behind (or around) the table to let others know that you have "booked" the table so when they leave you immediately bump your backside on a seat to "grab" the table. i've always thought that this system is very barbarian-ish! hooligans waiting behind your table to grab seats and hooligans purposely eating slowly to "enjoy" having the upperhand -.-
Cute Teapot!

Spicy Soup

Fa Diu Chicken

Vege and Tofu

Drunk Prawns
The Fah Diu Chicken is definitely my favourite, followed by the spicy soup which NEEDS to be mixed with rice or else the pepper will be abit too hard to take in. That night i bet at least one and a half serving of chicken went into my tummy :D, while i surreptitiously stopped my younger brother from taking second servings by ordering him to leave it for elders! (Me lah obviously)

on the other hand, the prawns were very fresh, and having 2 or 3 prawns all at once is no problem at all! ahhahahaha~

the after math of our food tsunami lol
the total came up to about Rm140, not bad if you count in all our bulging tummies. Each serving for the Fah Diu Chicken and the Soup costs Rm10, so decide in advance how many servings do you want!

forgive the "unkempt" hair

cheers!

a grin without a cat?

"why is a raven like a writing desk?"

do you remember this famous quote that i'm sure baffled alot of movie audiences a couple of years ago?

yeap, it came from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland - the real life version of Lewis Carroll's story about a girl who fell into a big hole and found herself in a magical, funny world. Remember the Mad Hatter played by Johnny Depp? The Red Queen by Helena Bonham Carter? or the White Queen, by Anne Hathaway?

Various characters from the movie
(spot the blue caterpillar!)
i have a question to be answered today:

"If you were given a chance, what animal/living being ('s) superpowers would you want to get?"

i want to have the Cheshire Cat's powers. Nope, i don't want The Mad Hatter's hat throwing abilities, nor the White Queen's potion making skills, neither do i want the Red Queen's way of screaming "Off with his head!!!"

Ain't he just cute? cute and dangerous

If i were the Cheshire Cat, i would be able to appear and disappear at my own will!
no more embarrassing/awkward situations.
no more scared situations.
i wouldn't even fear being kidnapped/raped/robbed in KL anymore cuz well, they can't catch me!
*crazy grin*

imagine how'd they feel if i dissappeared and left only my grin hanging there.

(smileeeeeeee)
 "HANTUUUUU! HANTUUU PEREMPUAAANNNN!!"
(ghost! female ghost!)

If i were the Cheshire Cat, i would be able to float!
i can float to Rome! Greece! Milan! Paris! Africa! (if i want to, that is)
friend's bored? Floating head performance coming up!
no ball to play with? here, have my floating head (wow that's a bit creepy)
and the list goes on and on.

original version in the cartoon

If i were the Cheshire Cat, i would be able to give creepy smiles!
(Example already given in section "appear and dissappear at my own will")

you want me? you like me?

i wonder if i'll be fluffy and puffy and purplish blue all over if i get his powers? i don't mind! hahha imagine being a human version of the Cheshire Cat. i think i'll spark of a host of fashion designs, eh?

What about YOU? what powers from animals or living beings would you want?

Cheers!

Gorging feast Part 1

this is going to be a series of posts about a group of ten people (+-) basically just gorging their hearts out on a two day one night trip in Genting.

so, if you are like me who cannot see pictures of pretty food without extensive feelings of jealousy, a need to kill, and terrible hunger that hits just like a mob - skip the pictures!
i call it the food-eye-syndrome. (images of food hit the eye which registers in the brain triggering off the host of symptoms i just mentioned)

The Nuffnang-ers organized an "Oriental Cuisine Event" (OCE) on the 19/6 to the 20/6 reserved specially for six bloggers to review, taste (or gorge), and blog about the delicacies on the cold, windy hill of Genting.

as Charis had class and i had midterms on that day, we arrived a little late (i like to call it fashionably late) and couldn't make it for the OCE's first venue in Ming Ren. No worries, i'll still blog about it after i steal from some other bloggers =D

In the express bus!

y u no go somewhere elseeeeee

"why do i have to wait" face

We reached at about four in the afternoon. the Skyway was so packed! afterwards we heard from Chloe, one of the organizers from Genting, that it was apparently that start of school holidays in Singapore. that's why there were so many tourist groups!

Darren from Nuffnang greeted us at the lobby of the Theme Park Hotel and ushered us off into our rooms! i vaguely hear a "wahhhhh~" from Charis before i stepped into the room..

guess who sleeps in the single bed D:
Spacious room with a huge mirror!!
yeap that's whats important
the bath where i played submarine
view from our room
selca
one for me, one for Charisssss
Two little monkeys, jumping on the bed..

it said on the itinerary that we would be going off for dinner at Genting Palace at 6.30 pm, so Charis and i had alot of time to doll up <3

all dolled up!

long sleeve - cotton on
top - brands outlet
high waisted skirt - Duet

red lips vs nude! *guns out*

At 6.30 Darren "collected" us and the other bloggers - Tian Chad (i asked if he was a Thai), Daniel, and Max. Wendy came afterwards when we were at Genting Palace.

drnking tea like a taitai (lifelong ambition)

you can see Tian Chad and Max over there, hehe
Top G8 Chef Jacky Yap

Menu for the night!

After some chit-chat and self-introduction, we started without further ado *rubs hands in glee*
First up, Double-boiled Minced Quail Ball with Assorted Fungus. in Mandarin it is called 野生鹌鹑球,which i think sums up the "essence" of the soup perfectly.

normal soup?

no it's not! the hugeee quail meatball with
water cressnut

the extremely expensive wild mushroom (野生)
crunchy, though!
For those who are interested in trying out the soup yourself, be sure to call GP at least one day earlier so that they can prepare the soup! Chef Yap told us that it has so many procedures where you boil the meat then you boil the soup where the soup is boiled and etc., it's no wonder the soup tasted sooooo good!
not to mention that it's not warmed up soup from the kitchen, loves!

Next up, Baked Baby Lobster with Dragon Fruit & Cheddar Cheese!
i was wondering how could Dragonfruit be paired up with lobster..fruit and seafood? it is a feat in itself just to place them together on a plate!

which one to start on first? lobster or salad? salad or lobster?
close-up of the salad <3
Apparently it works.
the tanginess of the fruits relives the heavy taste from the lobster and it is perfectly fine just to take some fruit and eat it with the lobster! The girls from Wisma Genting were so enthralled with the special taste from the salad that one of them, Chloe asked Chef Yap if they would consider just selling the salad to her!

Then we were served Steamed Dragon Tiger Grouper with Preserved Vegetable Condiment. the dish itself looked a little bit like our Wanton Noodles, but a bite out of it proved that it was nothing like those noodles.

see the plump flesh of the fish? mmmmm

nice photo editing!

Noodles were from Shanghai! (ooooh hi you lil noodles from overseas) and the fish tasted fresh, mixed with the preserved vegetables, it was just nice. Chef Yap told us that it compliments each other because the preserved vegetables were salty while the fish was just steamed without any other seasonings. a little too salty for my taste though, those of you who are heavy on taste may find it to your liking though!

Afterwards came the fourth dish - Simmer Abalone & Winter Melon with Black Truffle & Yellow Broth.
Not a fan of Abolone in the first place, i didn't find it as fascinating as others would, but all i can say that it was HUGE.

the vege tasted nice though Xp

Next up, Crispy Chicken Fillet with Special Sauce.
Spicyyyyy!

careful of the mines chilis, yea?

instead of individual servings, for this dish it is prepared in a large amount to be shared as the fillets are small chunky things (something like chicken fingers), garnished with chillis. (cili padi, to be exact)
my mouth was swollen by the time i finish two of these though.

Chef Yap made a joke out of Charis and i, of our inability to take any spiciness..
"Are you Malaysian?", haha! Malaysian ARE kind of identified by all the spicy curries and chillis they eat *glum face*. apparently even the chef's son, who is three, can take it better than us T.T

hhahahha he is hilarious. throughout dinner he was loud and boisterous, talking about everything under the moon about his family, how he met his wife, iphones and kids all the way to his time in Phillipines already. Xp

Lastly we had my favourite, DESSERT!
Although all it s named is Genting Palace Special Dessert, it doesn't even borderline justify the awesomeness of these desserts!

yum yum YUMMM

the jellied base of the desserts, UNEDIBLE!

soft snowskin with whipped cream and mango filling!
not to forget the slice of strawberry as a nice aftertaste <3

crunch crunch crunch

The chef talked about how one blogger from Singapore who is skinny and tiny managed to eat at least 4 of his desserts *in a state of bliss just thinking about that*

Lastly, picture-taking time with all the other bloggers and chef and everybody!

panorama shot of the table, just nice!

from left - Daniel, me, Tian Chad and Max
hahha Max is so cute
from right - Wendy, me, Chef Yap and sister Charis

took a pic with Darren from Nuffnang
made him stoop down though Xp
Everybody smileeeeee

Lovely dinner! All of us left, happy, satisfied, and mostly with bulging tummies! (nice to know that even my small frame can stomach all those food <3)

cheers!
